California-based satellite tv for pc operator Viasat is selling a bit of its authorities enterprise to protection contractor L3Harris, the businesses introduced on Monday, in a deal price almost $2 billon.
Shares of Viasat surged 36% Monday to about $41 per share, whereas L3Harris inventory climbed about 4% to roughly $216 per share.
Viasat is selling its “Link 16 Tactical Data Links (TDL)” enterprise, which is a military communications system that connects every part from plane to floor bases by means of a secured voice and knowledge community.
The Viasat unit introduced in about $400 million in income over the previous 12 months, representing about 35% of the corporate’s income from its authorities programs enterprise.
The sale of the Link 16 TDL unit is predicted to internet Viasat about $1.8 billion after taxes and charges. The satellite tv for pc operator stated it plans to use the proceeds of the sale to scale back debt and improve its liquidity.
The information comes as Viasat works to full one other main deal — its acquisition British satellite tv for pc operator Inmarsat for greater than $7 billion, increasing Viasat’s broadband community in orbit.
